Capcom's latest survival-horror title is heading Stateside.
October 05, 2004 - Capcom today announced that the survivor-horror game known as Demento in Japan (and which we saw, to much pleasure, at TGS), will come to North America as Haunting Ground. The title is expected to make it here in summer of 2005.
We've got some good preview coverage of the title from TGS, but as a quick up-to-speed: you'll play as Fiona Belli, an 18-year-old girl who survives a car accident (which takes the lives of her parents). She regains consciousness in a mysterious castle and must find her way out. Of course, that won't be easy, or calm, you can bet. Her companion in the game is a white dog, Hewie, who introduces a companion play-mechanic; you'll need the strengths of both characters to stay alive.
"This is not your typical survival horror game," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom USA. "Haunting Ground is a chilling new adventure with a unique twist. Players must utilize the strengths and bond of two characters in order to progress through an intense, suspenseful story."
Haunting Ground will introduce fascinating game mechanics. For instance, the more you develop a bond with Hewie, the easier he will be to command. Fiona herself will become more difficult to control as she spends more time near an enemy, reflecting her fear. The controller itself will pulse with her increasing heartbeat. It all promises to be eerie stuff.
Look for plenty more on Haunting Ground in the weeks and months ahead. It should be spook-tacular!
My thoughts:
Oh, boy! Another survival-horror game from Capcom. If you want to get scared, then grab this game when it comes out. I've liked the Resident Evil games, so I'll probably look into this one, too. Well, in the mean-time, come here and talk about this here game.
