Through a job listing on the Microsoft Careers website, it appears that some of Microsoft’s plans for the future of Xbox Live have been revealed. The job listing, which is under the category of Software Development Engineer, is seeking someone to work on a "Spectator Mode" for Xbox 2 games, a feature called "Xbox TV" (a feature that will include tickers for high scores and game highlights), and a tournament system with tradable trophies. All these features are to be implemented on the Xbox Next (or whatever you want to call it) through the next version of Xbox Live.
While these features are not fully understood at this time, it’s hard to question Microsoft’s willingness to drive online gaming forward. Hopefully we’ll learn more about exactly what these features will provide online gamers as we wait to hear more about Microsoft’s successor to the Xbox.

Yeah, too bad it won't be backwards compatible with the first X-Box. There's alot of cool games I'd like to play if I ever got the newer system; I could play the ones that I might have or the ones I've missed. Instead, I'd have to get the first X-Box and the new X-Box to be able to play games such as Shenmue II.
Something that's inside the Xenon that isn't compatible with older games, which is a shame. That's why the PS2 sold so many consoles. You could keep your old PS1 games, while getting the newer PS2 games. I wonder if the PS3 will have backwards compatibility.

Sony has said that they want to keep backwards compatibility throughout the Playstation line. Can you imagine playing PS1 games on your PS4 15 years from now?
